Camp Kearney is a ministry of the South Side Mission of Peoria, Illinois that has offered a Christian-based camping program to economically disadvantaged children of Peoria and Central Illinois for over 60 years. Only 17 miles from the city of Peoria, Camp Kearney is located on 155 picturesque acres, filled with the beauty of God’s creation.

Each summer, Camp Kearney hires young people ages 15 years and older who will play an essential part in sharing the love of Christ with the children during our 6-week summer program.

All meals and lodging are provided for summer staff throughout the length of the summer program.

All positions are paid, full time, seasonal positions that work Monday through Friday from June 8 - July 24.

Youth Development Leader

As a Youth Development Leader at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and care for a group of assigned campers, ensuring their safety, health, and active participation in camp programs. Embracing the mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will guide campers through a positive camping experience centered on the teachings of Jesus Christ. This is a summer seasonal position.

Youth Development Assistant

As a Youth Development Assistant at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will paly a vital role in assisting a Youth Development Leader (YDL) with the supervision and programming for a group of assigned campers, ensuring their safety, health, and active participation in camp programs. Embracing the mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will support the teaching of campers about Jesus Christ through your words and actions. This is a summer seasonon position.

Summer Maintenance

As a Summer Maintenance Worker at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our camp by maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and organization of camp facilities and grounds. Your responsibilities include stocking and replenishing supplies, cleaning program areas, cleaning shower and bathroom areas, maintaining outdoor spaces, preparing the nightly campfire, and assisting camp staff in various capacities. You will contribute to the mission of Camp Kearney by fostering a welcoming and Christ-centered environment. This is a summer seasonal position.

Program Leadership Assistant

As a Program Leadership Assistant at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will hold a key leadership position, working closely with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director to lead daily activities, support summer staff, supervise campers, and plan and implement programs. Embodying the mission of South Side Mission’s Camp Kearney, you will play an instrumental role in teaching campers about Jesus Christ through your actions and interactions. This is a summer seasonol position.

Lifeguard

As a Lifeguard at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will play a crucial role in providing a safe annd enjoyable waterfront program that aligns with the camp’s goals and objectives. You will complete daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance procedures to ensure safe operation and cleanliness of the pool and lake area. You will participate in weekly lifeguard drills to stay fresh of life saving procedures. This is a summer seasonal position.

Food Service Assistant

As a Food Service Assistant at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smoot hoperation of our camp’s kitchen and dining facilities. Your responsibilities include assisting the Food Service Leader with dish washing, food preparation, meal service, kitchen cleaning, and inventory management. By embracing the mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will support the teaching of campers about Jesus Christ through your culinary skills and service. This is a summer seasonal position.

Food Service Leader

As a Food Service Leader at South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will provide leadership in the kitchen and dining hall, ensuring the provision of nutritious and delicious meals that contribute to the overall camp experience. Your role involves menu planning, food preparation, cooking, ktichen organization, inventory management, and supervision of the Food Service Assistant. By embracing the mission of South Side Mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will support the teaching of campers about Jesus Christ through your culinary skills and service.

Health and Wellness Specialist

As a Health and Wellness Specialist at South Side Mission, you will play a critical role in ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of campers and staff throughout the summer. You will oversee the health center, administer medications, provide basic first aid, and offer support and encouragement to those in need. Embracing the Christian values and mission of South Side Mission Camp Kearney, you will serve as a compassionate and competent leader, contributing to a safe and nurturing camp environment where campers can grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
